What is long division?
Long division is used for dividing very large numbers into smaller parts or numbers.
Take the following example: 500 ÷4

First divide 5 hundreds by 4, and we get 1 hundred and some extra
Then, multiply 4 x 1 = 4
Then, subtract 4 hundreds from 5 hundred
Then bring down the zero – which gives us 1 hundred and 0 tens
Then, dividing 10 tens by 4 gives us 2 tens and some extra
Then subtract and bring down the zero – which gives us 20 ones
Then dividing 20 ones by 4 gives us 5 ones
Then when you can no longer divide the number by the divisor – that becomes the remainder.
