How can we use the concept:
When graphing any point on a coordinate plane or graph, that point is called an ordered pair.
The ordered pair will be put in parenthesis.
The first number in the parenthesis is your x, therefore you will go along the x axis.
The second number in the parenthesis is your y, therefore you will go along the y axis.
Here is a point (3, 2)
First start at the (0,0) and go to the right 3 points along the x axis.
Then from that point go up 2 for the y point.
Sample Math Problems
Problem
Graph the following point:
- Graph (4,-2)
- Go over to the four along the x axis
- Then go down 2 because it is negative
Solution
Problem
Graph the following point: (-1,2)
- First go along the x axis to the left to the -1
- Then go up 2 for the second number that is along the y
Solution
Problem
Graph the point (-2,-3)
- First go to the left -2 along the x axis
- Then go down 3 for your y axis number
