What is pi?

The circumference of a circle divided by the diameter of a circle gives us the value pi. Pi is equal to roughly the value 3.14159265… (it is an irrational number) but can be roughly estimated to equal 22/7.

How to use pi:
Pi = Circumference/Diameter

For example, if we had to calculate the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 100 cm, we would do the following:

\begin{array}{l} \ \Pi \ =\ \frac{circumference}{diameter} \ =\frac{x}{100\ cm\ } \ \\ \\ 100\ cm\ *\ \ \Pi =\ 314.5\ cm \end{array}

Sample Math Problems

Question 1: John walked 250 cm around in a circle. What was the diameter of the circle he walked?

Answer:

\begin{array}{l} \Pi \ =\ \frac{circumference}{diameter} \ =\frac{250\ cm}{x} \ \\ \\ \frac{250\ cm}{\Pi } \ =\ 79\ cm \end{array}
